Curriculum Intent

At Purley C of E  Primary School PSHE enables our children to become independent, confident, healthy and responsible members of society, as well as developing the “whole child” intellectually, morally, socially and spiritually. Weaving through the heart of our PSHE teaching, is a commitment to enhancing and promoting our core Christian Values: love, courage and wisdom. We aim to use PSHE to develop our school learning values of collaboration, resilience, reflection and research so pupils grow as learners in a nurturing, calm and happy atmosphere. PSHE is taught across the school on a weekly basis and as a school, we follow the Jigsaw PSHE scheme. In addition, we have visitors and activities to support our curriculum including participation in anti- bullying week and Odd Socks Day. We use the NSPCC Pants resources in KS1 to help children understand that their body belongs to them and have a fun time learning road safety in an interactive way. In KS2 children learn basic First Aid skills and attend drug awareness workshops. Our PSHE curriculum equips children with relevant and meaningful content, which is supported through a strong emphasis on emotional literacy, building resilience and nurturing mental and physical health. With an ever-changing society, we are able to provide our children with a strong understanding of the diverse world around them and support them in playing a positive role in contributing to the school and the wider community
