Badger Class (Year 1 and 2)
Hello and welcome to Badger class webpage, which we hope gives you a flavour of life at Purley in Year 1 and Year 2.
In Badger Class the children live our values of Love, Wisdom and Courage and this gives them all an opportunity to flourish.
Mrs Lyn Jones teaches Tuesday to Friday and Mrs Hodsdon teaches on Mondays. Mrs Hodsdon supports Mrs Lyn Jones the rest of the week.
As the children leave Hedgehog Class behind them and move into KS1, they take with them many life lessons and experiences. In Y1 we support the children to continue consolidating their valuable foundations of learning and begin building upon these as they start learning the National Curriculum. To ensure a smooth transition between the two classes, the children will continue to learn through play and guided sessions as they develop and secure their personal, social and emotional understanding along with their independent skills. Gradually throughout the Autumn term their days will become a little more structured.
This year will be an exciting year! We assure you that the topics covered will be fun, engaging and memorable.

These topics have been designed to allow children to continue learning in a variety of ways and through a variety of learning styles, allowing all children to flourish as they strive to achieve their full potential.
On a Friday we often finish the week with creative challenges. These challenges offer the children a wide variety of activities/mini-projects to get involved with. The class mix up with Hedgehog class and can choose the challenge that they would like to do engage with.
In Year 1 children visit Basildon Park for outdoor woodland learning in the Autumn and Spring terms.
Year 2 have swimming lessons at the Oratory school on Mondays throughout the year.
