Primary School

Let all that you do be done in love

1 Corinthians 16:14

Collective Worship

Our vision for Purley C of E primary school is:

“Let all that you do be done in love”
                                          1 Corinthians 16:14

Collective worship is central to the life of our school. Our school is a community that celebrates diversity and encourages dialogue. Pupils, staff and parents of all faiths (or none) are welcome. Worship offers the pupils and others in our school an opportunity to reflect on our values and issues in the context of our Christian vision and ethos. It is an expression of our vision and shapes our approach to others and to what we do in school.

  • Through our value of love, we inspire the children to love God, love themselves, love one another and love learning.
  • Through our value of courage we guide our children to  accept the things they cannot change and have the courage to change the things they can (Serenity Prayer)
  • Through our value of wisdom we encourage our children to make the right choices in life, living the way Jesus taught us.

The Pattern of Collective Worship

Collective worship takes place in a variety of groupings, in the school hall, in classrooms, and on occasions outside and at St Mary’s Parish Church. We follow the seasons of the Church year, significant festivals and other special days are observed. These always include Harvest, Christmas, Easter and Pentecost; other days such as Candlemas are celebrated occasionally. Other important days in the calendar such as Remembrance and the Leavers’ Service also feature in collective worship. The act of collective worship provides a sense of occasion that is separate from the rest of the school day.

Whenever worship takes place, it is planned to promote participants’ thinking beyond the time given to worship itself.
