Computing Curriculum at Purley Primary School

Intent
At Purley Primary School, our intent is to equip all pupils with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to use technology purposefully, creatively, and safely. We aim to develop digitally literate learners who can think critically, solve problems, and understand the ever-changing digital world around them. Through our computing curriculum, we inspire curiosity and encourage responsible digital citizenship. We want our pupils to leave Purley Primary as confident users of technology, prepared for future learning and for life in an increasingly digital society.

Implementation
We deliver our computing curriculum through Purple Mash, using mixed-age planning to ensure a broad and balanced sequence of learning across the school. Lessons are carefully structured to build on prior knowledge and develop core strands of computing: computer science, information technology, and digital literacy. Pupils engage in practical, hands-on activities that promote creativity and collaboration. Teachers adapt planning to meet the needs of mixed-age classes, ensuring challenge and progression for all learners. E-safety is woven throughout the curriculum, empowering pupils to use technology responsibly and safely.

Impact
Our computing curriculum enables pupils to become confident, competent, and creative users of technology. By the time they leave Purley Primary, pupils can design, create, and evaluate digital content effectively, apply logical reasoning, and demonstrate safe online behaviours. The curriculum ensures clear progression and engagement, with pupils developing digital fluency and the ability to use technology across different subjects. Through Purple Mash, children gain the skills, confidence, and understanding needed to thrive in a modern, digital world.
