About Us
Our Christian Ethos – Inclusive, Welcoming, and Values-Driven
At Purley Church of England Primary School, we aim to meet the needs of every child as an individual, within a caring and happy school community. While we are proud of our Christian foundation, we welcome children and families of all faiths and none, and work to ensure that everyone feels valued, respected, and included.
We believe that a strong set of values helps children flourish. As a Voluntary Controlled Church of England school, we explicitly teach shared Christian values—such as love, courage, and wisdom—and encourage all our pupils to reflect on what it means to live a life shaped by kindness, responsibility, and respect.
Faith, Worship and Learning Together
Christian beliefs, stories, and traditions are explored through our collective worship and RE curriculum, helping children develop a broad understanding of the Christian faith. This includes learning about the Bible, Christian hymns, and practices. We visit our local church on special occasions such as Harvest, Easter, and Christmas, and we welcome local church representatives to lead worship each week.
We also believe it’s important for children to understand and appreciate the wider world. Our curriculum and assemblies introduce children to British values, other major world religions, and cultural traditions, helping them to develop tolerance, empathy, and respect for others.
Children are encouraged to reflect during daily moments of quiet, and for those who wish, there is the opportunity to pray. These times allow space for personal thought, spiritual growth, and mindfulness—whatever a child’s beliefs may be.
A Place for Everyone
Whether you follow a particular faith or none at all, you will find a warm welcome at Purley. We are proud to be a school where Christian values are lived out in a way that is inclusive, not exclusive—supporting children from all backgrounds to grow in confidence, character, and compassion.
